Administrative Assistant
Main Duties
-carry out tasks required to keep their organization functioning -type memos, letters, and other documents -e-mail, fax, and photocopy documents, maintain and organize filling system -make travel arrangements, schedule appointments, meetings, and coordinate conferences -produce newsletter or prepare presentations to be delivered to their bosses |
Working Conditions
-work in offices in every kind of organization, including businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and universities -have regular hours: 9am-5pm, Monday- Friday -spend most of their day on their desk -sit for long periods while they answer telephones, work on computers, and juggle other tasks -usually get between 15 and 25 vacation days a year |
Wage
-entry-level administrative assistants earn between $20,000 and $30,000 a year -years of experience can earn between $30,000 and $45,000 a year -many years of experience who work for senior-level executives can earn as much as $75,000 or more a year |
Education
-require a high school diploma -colleges/university and business schools offer certificate and diploma programs -in the programs you will learn office procedure skills, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software programs, and math and accounting skills -programs vary in length from a few months to 2 years |

Becoming an administrative assistant is what I look to become in the future. I want to become an administrative assistant because it best suites me and my personality. I like to have things organized, neat, and tidy. I also like to keep track of things, book appointments, and all that stuff. Another reason is that I always wanted to work in an office. This job suites my personality to, which is helper and organizer. Lastly, I have all the skills required to become an administrative assistant. Some of the skills include good typing, technology, organizational, planning, and communication skills. This is why I would like to become an administrative assistant.
My final thought on this job is that it is the right career for me. I see myself pursing this job in the future because I have what it takes to become an administrative assistant. The only concern I have for this job is having back issues for sitting on the desk for way too long. Otherwise I have no other problems with this job.
